Lesson 4 Material

I chose the material for this demo page to help myself. I have a web site and have been meaning to redesign its home page for some time. This lesson has given me the basic tools to take a crack at it. So, the following material for Lesson 4 will become my home page for sunlaker.com. At least this design will stick for a while until I learn more about using CSS techniques. Then I hope to redesign the whole site. In the mean time, take a look at what I made for Lesson 4, Dreamweaver I. If you want to see what it looks like for real, click on over the sunlaker.com.

Life After Retirement

Hi. I started this web site when I retired, after 40 years in the Aerospace industry. I have spent much of my post-retirement time learning about working with digital pictures using both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I started taking online classes in Photoshop Elements from LVS Online, and then some classes in Photoshop. But the world really started expanding when I started taking online lessons in Photoshop from Janee Aronoff of myjanee.com. Janee now has (as of September 2006) a total of seven different online courses on Photoshop, with two more in development.

I liked Photoshop so much that I am now helping Janee teach her courses. Janee's other teacher, Joanne Johnson, is a top notch Photoshop user and has tons of teaching experience. So the three of us have a lot of fun, and at the present time (Sep 2006), have four classes running in parallel. The students are highly motivated, and it is a great learning experience for all of us. To see the classes that are offered and the calendar, take a look at Janee's Photoshop Classes.

In addition to teaching Photoshop, I am also involved with my local computer club, Computer Booters, leading a group in Photoshop Elements. We are all retired, so we have time to work on photos of the grandkids, trips around the country and abroad, and photos in general. I also participate in a computer group involved with Quicken, the financial software program. I led the Quicken group for four years, but recently turned over the lead to another member so I could concentrate on Photoshop.

I am once again taking another course from LVS Online, this time in Dreamweaver. Althea Fox is the instructor for this course, and is doing a great job of teaching us how to design and build our web pages and get them online. The course is challenging, but rewarding.

The table below contains links to the many courses I have taken, showing the homework for each course. The web design is somewhat limited, because I have yet to go through the three courses in Dreamweaver. The old design layout was first done using Earthlink's Web Design Tool, then transported to Nvu software. So in the current state, the code on the old pages is pretty jumbled. The design should improve in time as I learn more with Dreamweaver. All the art work shown below is from images I made using what I was taught in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Enjoy.
