Using the Clone Tool

This month the focus is on using the clone tool and the crop tool. The homework will be to clean up three images. For a refresher on using the Clone Tool, take a look at my Cloning Tutorial. For a quick reminder on using the Crop Tool, view the Crop Tutorial.

First Image

This picture has nice elements, but is way too busy. To simplify the image, use the clone tool to remove the beach chairs, the mast and the lines running through the trees.

Second Image

The second image is a great shot of sailboats, crusing through a passage between St Johns and St Thomas, VI. The branches get in the way of having a remarkable picture. The task is to remove the branches using the Clone Tool.

The final image gets a little more complex. The task is to remove the baby stroller from the picture, and recrop the image to an 8 x 10 in. size. Take advantage of the recropping to minimize the work you have to do with the Clone Tool while creating a nicely cropped image. [Hint: this means that you do NOT have to remove all of the stroller. Decide how you would crop the image, and then eliminate only that part of the stroller. But, a caution, do the cloning first, and crop second. Otherwise you might loose some of the picture you need to draw from to achieve a good cloning job.]

The image is of a father and his children (my son and my grandchildren). Clone out the stroller and recrop the image to 8 x 10 in.

I will give two links to this image. One is a larger 1.6 MB jpg file and is available for people with high speed internet access. The second image is a smaller 220 KB file for people with slower downlink capability. Use either image. While you are at it, clean up the color using a Levels layer.
